Later that day, Elliot was in her own personal hell. She was called in for an emergency meeting with her publicist, manager, and agent. Sheâd already met with them twice since getting back to LA to discuss damage control. There wasnât a whole lot of movement in the case since the police were still investigating. They hadnât gained much ground on finding out who was behind the whole thing, and it really upset Elliot that whoever was at fault might actually get away with it.
Her lawyer told her they were trying to get an injunction to keep the video from being broadcast online, but these kinds of requests took time, and theyâd have to go through the proper channels to get it done. Elliot didnât like to be in limbo. She hated waiting. Sheâd already lost weight, sleep, and her dignity over this situation, and things were only getting worse.
Their previous two meetings were to discuss how to position Elliot for her next few projects. She was set to film a new movie called Feast or Famine after her current film Best of Enemies wrapped, and she was in negotiations to star in a reboot of Bonnie and Clyde. She was the directorâs number one choice and given everything going on with the sex tape, they wanted to make sure the director still wanted her for the role.
She still didnât quite know why she was here, but she paced back and forth as her manager, Ava, and her agent, Kyle, tried to keep her calm.
âHow am I supposed to remain calm when you guys wonât even tell me why you called me here?â
Liz took a deep breath and stood up from her desk.
âElliot, have a seat.â
âI prefer to stand.â
Liz sat back down and looked at her phone. Elliot could tell she was avoiding the subject.
âWill someone please tell me whatâs going on?â
âWe got a call from the studio. Theyâre wavering on their casting choice for Bonnie and Clyde.â
Elliot stopped pacing.
âWhat?â
âThe director still wants you, but the studio is balking.â Liz looked at Kyle, who wouldnât meet her eyes. âSheâs meeting us here shortly.â
Elliot looked at her suspiciously.
âWhy?â
Liz looked at Ava for some help, but she was about as useless as Kyle, pretending to text away on her phone.
Liz gestured for Elliot to finally sit down. She complied.
âThey didnât get into specifics, but they did state it had something to do with you being a liability.â
âThe tape.â She started to understand and could feel her blood pumping with rage. Elliot stood up again and started pacing. She didnât know why, but her thoughts immediately went to Jessie. For some reason that helped calm her. She kind of wished she was with her right now instead of actually having to face all this bullshit head-on like a grown up. She wanted to be back in Vegas in their little bubble.
âTheyâre thinking of recasting you.â Liz took a beat as if this next part was going to hurt. âWith Cassie Ryan.â
âTell me youâre joking.
